Past and present

Essent N.V. was formally established in 1999 as a result of the merger of two energy companies: EDON Group NV and PNEM/MEGA Group NV. Essent Trading was also established in 1999, to manage the complex portfolio of assets and long-term contracts that arose from the merger. Since then Essent Trading has built state-of-the art systems and recruited a diverse team of energy professionals, ensuring that our business has flourished despite periods of volatile market conditions, and the deregulation of energy markets across Europe.

On October 1 2009, Essent N.V. was acquired by RWE AG. As a result, Essent Trading International S.A. changed its name to RWE Supply & Trading Switzerland S.A. on 26 April 2010. On the same day, sister company, Essent Energy Trading B.V. changed its name to RWE Supply & Trading Netherlands B.V. Both these entities remain subsidiaries of Essent N.V. for the time being.
